So, Kaidan didn't believe food could be exciting, and Miguel was out to prove him wrong.

Given his roommates, at least the meal should be interesting.

He'd made empanadas, chicken mole enchiladas, nopales, apple pie, and horchata.

It was maybe a bit of a mishmash, but damn it, he was going for exciting!

...maybe Mitsutada would add some sushi to the mix or something. Who knew?

Reno, perhaps predictably, stuck his tongue out at that one.

"Pedants everywhere, yo."

"Yeah, but pedants who keep you fed," Mitsutada said. "Otherwise you'd be even skinnier."

"Yeah, last thing the world needs is me, skinnier," Reno snorted.

Hell, he'd been skinnier, once upon a time. He was doing pretty okay these days.

"I can think of a few worse things," Mitsutada said. "History being altered by the revisionist army tops the list."

"Yeah, radioactive disaster kinda sucks ass too," Reno said easily. And then made a reach to snag an empanada.

"Giant monsters," Mitsutada added. "Bread becoming sentient and trying to turn people into toast."

"Half-alien mama's boy comin' back from the dead as triplets, tryin' to turn kids into zombies."

This could last a while.

"That one is very specific," Mitsutada said. "Is there a story with that one, or have I already heard the important parts?"

"I been re-watching the movie goin' back over the details of that one for years now, and it still don't make total sense," Reno replied cheerfully. "But damn right there's a story. A real long one, yo."

"So long our dinners would get cold?" Mitsutada asked. "Perhaps I'll ask for it another time, then. Assuming you wish to speak of it."

"So long the food'll go to spore on the plates," Reno replied with a shrug. "Another time, yo. I ain't opposed to storytime, but I'm sure people wanna talk about somethin' a little less depressin' tonight anyway."

"That's a long story," Mitsutada conceded. "My apologies for asking about such a dark topic. It is certainly not something to speak of over food."

"More like drinks," Reno agreed with a shrug. "I'll bring some decent booze home sometime an' we can shoot the shit, share sob stories, whatever. It'll be a good time."

"My stories will be mainly about my master, I'm afraid. I don't have that much history with a body," Mitsutada lamented.

"Eh, you ain't missin' out," Reno replied, shrugging. "Ain't like not havin' a body stopped half the people from my world for long anyway."

Mitsutada paused again.

"Half the people from your world didn't have bodies?"

Reno also paused.

"... S'hyperbole," he offered. "But it ain't unheard of, either."

"You are a very confusing man, Reno," Mitsutada said. "But then, I suppose when almost all of my friends have also been swords, it is still confusing to hear about experiences outside of that."

"Eh, what ain't confusin' out there in the world, right?" Reno shrugged. "S'life, yo."

You got used to it. Or you didn't. Whichever.

"I'm barely over a year old, at least in... flesh years," Mitsutada said.

He paused.

"I should never use that phrase again."

"That is possibly the most horrifying phrase I've ever heard," Reno agreed, his tone still light. "Let's just call you a baby an' be happy you're toilet trained, yo."

"I'm still hundreds of years old," Mitsutada said, pouting juuuust a little. "I just spent the majority of that as a sword."

"Oooooh," Reno drawled. "In that case... we should still be glad you're toilet trained, I guess."
